Approved Uses

Treatment of the signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis (e.g., ocular itching; may include redness/tearing).

Off-Label Uses

May be used off-label as adjunctive therapy for other allergic ocular conditions (e.g., vernal keratoconjunctivitis/atopic keratoconjunctivitis) when clinician-directed.

Dosage & Administration

Initial Dose

One drop in each affected eye twice daily, 6 to 8 hours apart.

Maintenance Dose

One drop in each affected eye twice daily, 6 to 8 hours apart.

Maximum Dose

1 drop in each affected eye twice daily (maximum: BID per affected eye)

Dose Adjustment Notes

No adjustment needed for renal or hepatic impairment with ophthalmic use due to low systemic absorption.

How to Take

Wash hands. Open one single-dose (unit-dose) container; do not touch the tip. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid, instill 1 drop into affected eye(s). Close eye gently and apply nasolacrimal occlusion (press inner corner) for ~1 minute. If using other ophthalmic products, separate by at least 5 minutes. Discard the unit-dose container immediately after use (single use only), even if solution remains.

Rapid-often within minutes (about 3-5 minutes) for relief of ocular itching.

Duration of Effect

Approximately 24 hours for olopatadine 0.77% formulation; for 0.1% formulation, duration is shorter (approximately 8 hours or less based on twice-daily dosing regimen)

Bioavailability
