Empamac Met is a dual-action oral anti-diabetic tablet combining empagliflozin (SGLT2 inhibitor) and metformin hydrochloride . It helps lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when used alongside diet and exercise. Prescription only. Product Uses (Indications) For adults (18+) with type 2 diabetes whose blood glucose is not adequately controlled on metformin alone or with other anti-diabetic medicines. May be used in combination with other agents , including insulin, as prescribed. Can be used as a replacement for separate empagliflozin + metformin tablets to reduce pill burden (do not continue the single tablets in addition to Empamac Met). Side Effects Seek urgent care for: Lactic acidosis (very rare): vomiting, abdominal pain, severe tiredness, trouble breathing, low body temperature/slow heartbeat. Diabetic ketoacidosis (rare): rapid weight loss, nausea/vomiting, stomach pain, deep/fast breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness, fruity breath or metallic taste—can occur even if glucose isn’t very high. Other possible side effects: Very common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite. Common: genital yeast infection, passing urine more often, itching, rash/red skin, taste changes, thirst, constipation, ↑ blood lipids (cholesterol). Uncommon: hives, pain/straining when urinating, decreases in kidney function (labs), ↑ haematocrit. Rare: Fournier’s gangrene (serious infection of genital/perineal area). Very rare: ↓ vitamin B12, abnormal liver tests/hepatitis, kidney inflammation. How to Use (Dosage & Administration) Usual dose: 1 tablet twice daily with meals. Swallow whole with water. Your doctor will select the strength to match your current metformin dose and may adjust for kidney function. Missed dose: take when remembered unless near the next dose— do not double . Do not stop treatment without medical advice. Cautions & Warnings Do not use if allergic to empagliflozin, metformin, or any ingredient; in type 1 diabetes , ketoacidosis , severe kidney impairment, significant liver disease, severe infection , or dehydration ; pregnancy or breastfeeding . Surgery/iodinated contrast scans: you may need to stop temporarily—follow your doctor’s instructions. Dehydration risk: illness with vomiting/diarrhea/fever, diuretics, low fluid intake, heat exposure—pause and call your doctor. With insulin or sulfonylureas: risk of hypoglycaemia —dose adjustments may be needed. Alcohol: avoid excessive intake (raises lactic acidosis risk). Not recommended to start at ≥85 years ; not studied in <18 years . Your urine may test positive for glucose while on treatment.
