Warnings & Precautions
For rectal use only; do not use if constipation is accompanied by abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting; stop and seek medical advice if rectal bleeding occurs or if no bowel movement occurs after use; do not use for more than 7 days without medical advice and avoid frequent/prolonged use due to dependence risk.

Pharmacology
Mechanism of Action
Hyperosmotic and local irritant effect in the rectum: draws water into the rectum to soften stool and increases rectal distension, stimulating peristalsis and evacuation.
Onset of Action
Typically 15-60 minutes after insertion (often ~15-30 minutes).
Duration of Effect
Intended to produce a single bowel movement; effect is not sustained beyond the immediate evacuation.
Half-Life
Not well-defined/unknown for rectal suppository use (systemic half-life not clinically relevant).
Bioavailability
Minimal systemic absorption; primarily local rectal action (osmotic/hyperosmotic effect).
Excretion
Primarily local effect with elimination in stool; any small absorbed fraction is metabolized and ultimately excreted renally as metabolites.
Protein Binding
Negligible/none expected.
