Monitor/educate for muscle symptoms (check CK if symptomatic; stop if severe myopathy/rhabdomyolysis suspected), assess liver enzymes before initiation and if symptoms arise, use extra caution with myopathy risk factors (e.g., renal impairment, hypothyroidism, interacting drugs, older age), note dose-related proteinuria/hematuria and monitor renal function particularly at 40 mg, and recognize small increases in glucose/HbA1c (new-onset diabetes risk).
