Initial Dose

One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Maintenance Dose

One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Maximum Dose

1 drop in each affected eye once daily (maximum: once daily).

Children's Dosage

Children ≥2 years: 1 drop in each affected eye once daily (same as adult dosing)

Dose Adjustment Notes

No dose adjustment is generally required for renal or hepatic impairment or in the elderly with ophthalmic olopatadine due to minimal systemic exposure.

How to Take

Wash hands. Remove contact lenses. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to form a pocket, instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily. Close eye gently and apply nasolacrimal occlusion (press inner corner) for 1-2 minutes. Do not touch dropper tip to eye/skin/surfaces. If using other ophthalmic products, separate by at least 5 minutes (ointments last).

Side Effects

Common Side Effects

Common adverse effects include transient eye burning/stinging, blurred vision, dry eye, foreign body sensation, eye hyperemia/redness, and headache; nasopharyngitis/upper-respiratory symptoms can also occur.

Side Effect Frequency

Common (≥1% to <10%): headache; ocular burning/stinging; blurred vision; dry eye; foreign body sensation; ocular hyperemia; eye pruritus. Uncommon/rare: keratitis/corneal disorders; hypersensitivity reactions.

Safety & Warnings

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to olopatadine or any component of the formulation.

Warnings & Precautions

For ocular use only (not oral/injectable); avoid contamination (do not touch dropper tip); remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 10 minutes before reinsertion; do not wear lenses if eyes are red/irritated; contains benzalkonium chloride which can irritate eyes and discolor soft lenses.

Age Restriction

Not approved/recommended for children under 2 years of age.

Drug Interactions

Interaction Severity

No clinically significant drug interactions are expected with ophthalmic olopatadine at recommended doses; theoretical additive CNS depression with sedatives/alcohol is unlikely due to minimal systemic absorption.

Special Populations

Children

Children ≥2 years: 1 drop in each affected eye once daily (same as adult dosing)

Kidney Impairment

No adjustment needed.

Storage & Patient Advice

Patient Counseling

Use 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting (and avoid use with contact lenses if eyes are red/irritated). Do not touch the dropper tip; recap after use. Temporary blurred vision may occur-avoid driving until clear. If using other eye meds, separate by ≥5 minutes. Store below 30°C (per SFDA).

Monitoring Requirements

No routine monitoring required.
