Indications
Approved Uses
Temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dryness of the eye (dry eye) and minor irritations from environmental exposure (e.g., wind/sun).
Off-Label Uses
Supportive ocular surface lubrication in situations such as environmental irritation (dust/wind/smoke) and adjunct lubrication after ocular procedures if advised by a clinician; contact lens rewetting only if the product labeling permits use with lenses.
Dosage & Administration
Dosing by Condition
Dry eye/ocular irritation: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed; may be used several times daily according to symptoms or as directed on labeling.
Initial Dose
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed. [1, 5]
Maintenance Dose
1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily or as needed for symptom relief
Maximum Dose
No established maximum daily dose; instill 1-2 drops as needed (per symptom relief) unless otherwise directed by a clinician.
Children's Dosage
Standard adult dosing can be used, but consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Dose Adjustment Notes
No dose adjustment is required in renal or hepatic impairment.
How to Take
Wash hands. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) without touching the dropper tip to the eye/skin/surfaces, then gently close the eye for 1-2 minutes; nasolacrimal occlusion (gentle pressure at the inner corner) for ~1 minute may be used to reduce drainage. If using other eye medicines, separate administrations by at least 5-10 minutes.
Side Effects
Common Side Effects
Transient blurred vision immediately after instillation; mild, temporary stinging/burning or eye irritation.
Side Effect Frequency
Common: transient burning/stinging/irritation and temporary blurred vision; Uncommon/Rare: redness, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., allergic conjunctivitis/eyelid irritation).
Safety & Warnings
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to polyvinyl alcohol, povidone, or any other ingredient in the formulation.
Warnings & Precautions
For ophthalmic use only; avoid contaminating the dropper tip; do not use if solution is cloudy/discolored; remove contact lenses before use and wait ~15 minutes before reinsertion; stop use and consult a clinician if pain, vision changes, or persistent/worsening redness/irritation (often >72 hours) occurs.
Age Restriction
No specific age restriction in the verified SFDA data; can be used in adults and children, but use in young children/infants should be under caregiver/clinician guidance per labeling practice for OTC artificial tears.

If used as needed, apply when symptoms occur. If using on a schedule, use when remembered unless it is close to the next dose; do not double doses.
Stopping the Medicine
Safe to stop anytime
Overdose
Ophthalmic overdose is unlikely to cause harm; if too much is used, excess can be wiped away. If accidentally ingested, toxicity is unlikely-seek medical advice/poison center if large ingestion or symptoms occur.
Patient Counseling
For dry/irritated eyes, instill 1-2 drops as needed. Wash hands; avoid touching the dropper tip; remove contact lenses and reinsert after ~15 minutes if labeling allows. Expect brief stinging or blurred vision; avoid driving until vision clears. Seek medical advice if pain, vision changes, marked redness, or symptoms persist/worsen (e.g., beyond 72 hours). Pharmacology
Mechanism of Action
Polyvinyl alcohol and povidone are hydrophilic polymers that increase tear film viscosity and form a protective lubricating/wetting film on the ocular surface, stabilizing the tear film and reducing friction to relieve dryness and irritation.
Onset of Action
Immediate (within minutes).
Duration of Effect
Variable; typically provides short-term relief (often minutes to a few hours) and may require repeat dosing as needed.
Half-Life
Not applicable - no meaningful systemic half-life; ocular residence is short and governed by tear film turnover.
Bioavailability
Minimal to negligible systemic absorption; effects are primarily local on the ocular surface.
Metabolism
Not applicable - no clinically relevant systemic metabolism expected due to minimal absorption.
Excretion
Not applicable - primarily cleared from the ocular surface via tear turnover and nasolacrimal drainage; systemic excretion is negligible.
Protein Binding
Not applicable - clinically irrelevant because systemic exposure is minimal.
