Methotrexate contains the active ingredient methotrexate. Methotrexate is a cytotoxic agent (antimetabolite) that affects the formation of new cells and inhibits the activity of the immune system (immunosuppressive agent). Methotrexate is used to treat: Active rheumatoid arthritis ( arthritis ) in adult patients. Severe resistant and disabling psoriasis, in patients who have not improved with other forms of treatment such as light therapy, PUVA and retinoids. Severe psoriatic arthritis in adult patients. Your doctor can explain to you how Methotrexate can help for your particular condition. How To Use: Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Take Methotrexate once a week. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis , psoriatic arthritis or psoriasis will usually take the tablets by mouth once a week on the same day of the week. Do not take the tablets more often than your doctor has told you. Daily use can lead to serious poisoning , including death. Take the tablets with a glass of water while sitting or standing. Recommended dose: Rheumatoid arthritis: The recommended dose is 7.5 mg-15 mg by mouth, once a week. Psoriasis: The recommended dose is 7.5 mg-15 mg by mouth, once a week. Take Methotrexate tablets only once a week . Warnings And Precautions: Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Methotrexate if you have or have had any of the following: If you have/have had liver or kidney disease. If you are using any other medicines or vitamin preparations. If you have ulcers in the stomach or intestines (ulcers or ulcerative colitis ). If you have a bad general condition. If you have received any vaccines recently or it is time to receive a vaccine. If you have inactive, long-term infections (e.g. Tuberculosis , hepatitis B or C, shingles [ herpes zoster ]). If you have insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (diabetes). If you have problems with lung function. If you are seriously overweight If you have an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdomen or the cavity between the lungs and the chest wall ( ascites , pleural effusions ) If you are dehydrated or suffer from a condition that leads to dehydration (e.g. Dehydration as a result of vomiting, diarrhea or inflammation of the mouth or lips) Ingredients: The active ingredient is methotrexate. Each tablet contains 2.5 mg methotrexate.
