  • Key features

FEROMIN 190/MG FC TAB is a film-coated tablet from FEROMIN containing 190 mg of ferrous sulfate as the active mineral. It treats and prevents iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia by replenishing the body's iron stores required for red blood cell and hemoglobin production, suitable for individuals with low iron levels or increased iron needs. Formulated as ferrous sulfate (Fe2+), a highly soluble divalent iron salt with superior bioavailability compared with ferric (Fe3+) salts, offering an absorption rate of approximately 20-30% in iron-deficient individuals. Each serving is one film-coated tablet; available in a pack of 30 tablets.

Benefits & Uses

Primary Benefit

Treats and prevents iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia by replenishing the body's iron stores required for red blood cell and hemoglobin production.

Usage & Dosage

Suggested Use

Take one tablet daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or keep the tablet in your mouth.

Serving Size

1 film-coated tablet.

Servings Per Container

30

Best Time to Take

On an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for optimal absorption; may be taken with food to reduce stomach upset, avoiding dairy and high-fiber foods.

Recommended Daily Intake

Adult men: 8mg/day elemental iron; Adult women (19-50 years): 18mg/day; Pregnant women: 27mg/day; Iron deficiency treatment: 100-200mg elemental iron/day under medical supervision.

Absorption Enhancers

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) significantly enhances absorption; acidic gastric environment; taking on an empty stomach.

Absorption Inhibitors

Calcium, dairy products, antacids, proton pump inhibitors, H2 blockers, tea, coffee, phytates (whole grains, legumes), oxalates, and high-fiber foods reduce absorption; take at least 2 hours apart from these.

Safety & Warnings

Contraindications

Contraindicated in iron overload states (e.g., hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis) and in patients with hypersensitivity to ferrous sulfate or any excipients; also contraindicated in anemias not due to iron deficiency (including hemolytic anemia unless iron deficiency is confirmed).

Breastfeeding Safety

Safe

Children Suitability

Consult a physician before use in children; pediatric dosing is weight-based and differs from adult dosing; accidental overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6.

Interactions

Supplement Interactions

Calcium supplements compete for absorption - take separately; zinc and magnesium may reduce iron absorption; avoid concurrent use with other iron-containing supplements.

Synergistic Nutrients

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) enhances non-heme iron absorption; Vitamin B12 and folate support red blood cell production alongside iron.

Patient Counseling

For FEROMIN (ferrous sulfate 190 mg) film‑coated tablet: Take by mouth preferably on an empty stomach (about 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) to maximize absorption; if gastrointestinal upset occurs, it may be taken with a small amount of food. Avoid taking around the dose with milk/dairy, calcium supplements, antacids, tea/coffee, or high‑fiber/high‑phytate foods as they reduce absorption. Taking with vitamin C (e.g., orange juice) can enhance absorption. Swallow the film‑coated tablet whole; do not crush or chew. Separate from interacting medicines (especially tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, and antacids/calcium) by at least 2 hours; use 4 hours separation for levothyroxine and preferably for tetracyclines/fluoroquinolones. Dark/black stools are expected; constipation, nausea, and abdominal discomfort can occur. Continue therapy for the prescribed duration (often several months and typically ~3 months after hemoglobin normalizes) to replenish iron stores. Keep out of reach of children-accidental iron overdose can be fatal.
