Product Information

Ferinject is an antianaemic iron preparation from Vifor Pharma, supplied as a solution for injection or infusion.

Benefits & Uses

Ferinject is used to treat iron deficiency in adults when oral iron is not effective enough, when oral iron cannot be tolerated, or when the doctor decides that iron stores need to be built up quickly. It is also used in adults with iron deficiency anaemia and chronic kidney disease.

Usage & Dosage

Your doctor decides the dose, how often you need it and for how long, based on a blood test. It is administered by a doctor or nurse, undiluted by injection, during dialysis, or diluted as an infusion. Up to 20 ml, corresponding to 1,000 mg of iron, may be given once a week directly into a vein.

Safety & Warnings

Ferinject is given where allergic reactions can be treated promptly, and you are observed for at least 30 minutes after each administration. Tell your doctor about any other medicines, medical conditions or allergies, about high blood pressure, and about any previous allergic reaction to iron given into a vein. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and if you are breastfeeding, report any diarrhoea or constipation in the baby. Tell your caregivers if you feel burning or pain during the injection.

Storage & Patient Advice

Store in the original package to protect from light, do not store above 30°C and do not freeze. Once opened, use immediately. Keep out of reach of children.
