Indications

Approved Uses

Symptomatic relief of dry eye (ocular surface dryness/irritation) and lubrication/protection of the ocular surface (artificial tears).

Dosage & Administration

Initial Dose

1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed

Maintenance Dose

1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily or as needed.

Maximum Dose

No defined maximum daily dose; use as needed per symptoms (per label/clinician advice).

How to Take

Wash hands. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, instill 1 drop (may use 1-2 drops if needed) into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye/skin/any surface. Close the eye gently for 1-2 minutes. Replace cap tightly after use.

Common Side Effects

Transient blurred vision after instillation; mild, temporary eye irritation such as stinging/burning; occasional redness or foreign-body sensation.

Side Effect Frequency

Common: transient blurred vision immediately after instillation; Uncommon/Rare: mild eye irritation (burning/stinging), redness, itching, foreign body sensation; Hypersensitivity reactions are rare.

Missed Dose

If used on a schedule, instill when remembered unless it is close to the next dose; otherwise skip-do not double. If used PRN, use when symptoms occur.

Overdose

Ocular overdose is unlikely to be harmful; excess can be wiped away or the eye rinsed if irritation occurs. Accidental ingestion is expected to have low toxicity; seek advice if a large amount is swallowed or symptoms occur.

Patient Counseling

Use 1 drop (up to 1-2 if needed) in affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily or PRN. Wash hands; avoid touching the tip; recap after use. If using other eye meds, separate by 5-15 minutes (drops before ointments). Contact lenses: follow product labeling; commonly remove lenses and wait ~15 minutes before reinsertion unless the product is specifically labeled for use with lenses. Temporary blurred vision may occur-avoid driving until clear. Store below 30°C. Seek medical advice if eye pain, marked/worsening redness, discharge, or vision changes occur, or if symptoms persist.

Sodium hyaluronate is a viscoelastic polymer that binds/retains water, stabilizes the tear film, and forms a lubricating protective layer on the ocular surface to reduce friction and dryness symptoms.
